You really learn a lot about a person and deepen your bonds when you haven’t showered in 5 days while camping or when the host serves you crocodile on New Year’s Eve in Vietnam! My husband and I cemented our relationship with our passion for traveling. We loved every minute, even the gross ones, and we always talked about traveling with our theoretical kids – that we would share our love for the world with them.
I was very pregnant with our first daughter in 2008 and had stopped my teaching career, he was about to transition out of his family business and start his own, we had JUST bought our first house together . . . and then the economy crashed. And with it went any chance to travel, much less with our kids. Those plans were put on a high up shelf. Now, 9 years and 3 daughters later, we are finally realizing that dream with our first family trip to Costa Rica! We have been once before, as newlyweds, and absolutely loved it.
The people, the wildlife, the adventures, the scenery, all spectacular. With our kids all in spanish immersion public education, it was the perfect place to introduce them to life outside America.
On our previous trip we had used a eco-tourism company called GreenSpot Travel (@greenspottravel) to make all the plans for us, so we approached them again. The thought of not only planning a trip, but knowing what adventures and hotels were appropriate for 4-9 year olds was daunting. I mean, just picking a place to stay from the 43,000 choices online makes you want to give up!
To say that the experience was seamless with them would be an understatement. All you have to do is tell them ideas of activities you’re interested in, budget, dates and it’s all done for you! This is not a travel agency, this is like having an aunt who lives in Costa Rica personally find incredible local nature and culture experiences. our meals, our transportation, our guides, our activities, ALL taken care of! And a huge perk is that GreenSpot only works with eco-friendly lodges and believes that travel should support conservation and the well-being of destination residents, so you can feel good about what you’re doing.
So in just a few days we will be heading on our big adventure to include zip-lining, white water rafting, snorkeling and a jungle tour! I’ll be doing a take over of @greenspottravel while we are there and I do hope you’ll follow along. Then come on back here at the end of February and I’ll tell you all about our trip! Pure Vida.
